Ards RFC were proud to be represented at Ulster Club's level by two of their youth players Callum O’Hanlon and James McDowell.
Both players have been part of the Ulster Summer Development squads for the second year running and were selected to play for both U16 and U17 Ulster Club's side against Ontario, with Callum having the honour of captaining the U16 team.
Ontario fielded a very large squad in terms of numbers and size and the Ulster U16 team struggled to keep the scores at bay. With the games taking the form of 3 x 20 minute sessions, Ontario dominated the first 2 sessions but in the last session the U16s gave Ontario a game with both sides scoring 1 try a piece.
The Ulster U17 were more prepared after seeing the Ontario squad and it was a much tighter affair. James McDowell tackled hard and used his physicality in the rucks. Unfortunately Ontario were too large and strong again.
Both players should be very proud of themselves and all at Ards Rugby will follow their progress with interest.
A special mention should also go to the commitment of both sets of parents who have supported their sons throughout the Regional Development Squads and the Summer training program.
