Ards 2nds bounce back!
By STEPHEN NUTT
Ards 2nds secured a win in their first home match of the season!
Last Saturday Ards 2nds secured a bonus point win at home against Instonians 3rds, this was a dominant performance built on some outstanding work from the forwards who provided the platform all afternoon that yielded the points that dominance deserved.
After some early Ards pressure, it was the visitors who opened the scoring with a well worked converted try seizing on turnover ball and some lack lustre Ards defence through the middle of the park.
Ards quickly rallied with a powerful forwards surge putting Adam McKee through for a try converted by outhalf Alex Gaw.
Ards then got the bit between their teeth and the tries started to rain down with Adam Coulter, Matthew Warnock, Davy Chivers, Matthew Kane and Adam McKee, all getting on the scoresheet, with the talented Gaw, slotting over another 3 conversions .
Forwards dominance, complimented by some superb cutting lines by the backs, left everyone in awe as to what they were witnessing at a very happy Hamilton Park.
The second half started as the first had finished with Mark McLean getting the scoreboard ticking over once again with a fine solo effort. Ards looked comfortable at this early stage of the second half with stout defence preventing Instonians from getting a foothold in home territory and the pack turning over a lot of ball. Creative attacking and great composure was rewarded through patience in execution.
Not to be out done by his teammates, new signing Jimmy Gray then got a brace of tries in quick succession to ensure there was no coming back for the visitors who to their credit, never threw in the towel, and pressed hard right to the end.
All in all, this was a magnificent performance which will give the 2nds a massive boost for future contests ahead as they ran out 51 - 7 victors on the day.
Thanks are once again extended to our very talented visitors Instonians, the match official and the sizeable touchline jury, who were well entertained throughout the game.
