Ards Panthers 5 v Malone 27

Ards Panthers get up and running!

Ards Panthers Ladies Rugby:
Ards Panthers played their first match of the season on Sunday when they hosted Malone in a Ladies Development Match.

The match got off to a great start with both teams coming out of the blocks very quickly, the Ards pack played well holding and pushing Malone to turn over two phases Malone then made a break through their fly half and three phases later scored a well worked unconverted try. Ards Panthers 0 v Malone 5

From the restart Ards came up quickly and pressurised Malone forcing a turnover, Ards again played some great rugby but again it was Malone who scored the points when they took play to the Ards line and scrambled the ball over the line for a converted try. Ards 0 v Malone 12

Ards then stepped up from the restart with some great work and with good ball coming from the pack Panthers Captain Julie Patterson off loaded to Chloe Garret who in turn found fly half Rebecca Calvert, the ball was crashed up by Sam Aston and Rachael McMenamin and recycled out to Emily Martin on the wing who ran a good 40 yards before being pushed into touch.

Ards then made a great break and Betsy Young crashed over for an unconverted try; unfortunately in the build up Captain Patterson took a hit to the head and had to leave the field. The team was reshuffled and another member of the stalwart Ards Rugby family Victoria Presho came on to Hamilton Park just like her dad and uncle who have played here for some years, Victoria had a wonderful game.

After the half time break the effort Ards had put in started to show and Malone scored three more tries.

Final score: Ards Panthers 5 v Malone 27

After the match the players were fed and awards were presented, a great day was had by all.
We wish our two injured players captain Julie Patterson and vice Captain Sam Aston who chipped an ankle bone and ligament damage a speedy recovery.

Special thanks to the Ballyclare ladies who boosted our numbers as they don't currently have a team and to Luxe Day Spa at Blackwood, The Ranch Restaurant, Jubilee Road for sponsoring the post match food and to Trophies by Design for the great trophies.

Ards Panthers need more members, any ladies fancy giving it a go contact us at the club Wednesday nights at 6.45pm or Gary Aston 07837383148.
