The U16s, were a bit of a mirror of the u14s in terms of numbers, where Ophir were slightly better off than us today, suffering from a couple of injuries to our very small squad, meaning we had to forfeit the league points before kick off. However, having only had 5 players at the start of last month, to now have 13 when all available is a testament to the belief and determination of coaches, players and club and we hope to continue building on this throughout the season. With teams mixed together, there were Ards men on either side and at times, it was difficult to know which team to cheer on. The score wasn't kept due to the nature of the teams and league points no longer on the table, so the advertised scoreline isn't accurate, but serves to give Ophir credit for their 'league win'.
Stefan HS was a handful as always, making some massive carries, with Daniel D getting around the pitch, offering hi himself as a willing carrier, support runner and all round workhorse. On the other side, Sam M showed huge development of his game knowledge, making some smashing carrier from 'around the corner', while making more than one try saving tackle! Seb D moved from the engine room to centre for today, but showed his poaching skills to secure turnovers against the isolated opposition backs while outside him, Paddy W and Ollie C made their debut for the U16s, showing some slick attacking skills alongside gritty defensive work. Ollie will be happy to have gotten himself a brace while Paddy W bagged an assist to start his tally in black.
The tip of the hat has to go to our halfback pairing for today, with Paddy H and Cole marshalling the game well, Paddy delivering fantastic ball for Cole to work with and Cole using the boot and hands effectively.
