The youngest of the three Dodd brothers, prop Davy Dodd suffered a double lower leg break when the Quins second row fell awkwardly onto Davy after a great tackle from Ards hooker Conran Stewart.
All at Ards wish Davy a speedy and full recovery and a big thank you to Doctor Peter Foley the Harlequins fly half who reacted quickly to administer medical treatment on the pitch.
This is a further set back to Ards 2nds following a similar injury to centre Laisenia Railaiti only a few weeks earlier.
Davy Dodd was having a superb all round game winning turnovers in the loose and combining with Ashley Peden and Conran Stewart in a dominate front row.
Ards had started well with the returning Ryan Yates and Kiti in the back row giving the team that cutting edge that was lacking in previous matches.
Quins refused two early kick-able penalties and went for the corners, but Ards were not going to be intimidated and turned over the lineouts led by captain Adam McKee.
On 15 minutes the heavy Quins pack did manage to surge over the Ards try line for a unconverted score 0-5.
The line-out and scrum was giving fly-half Aston good go forward ball which enabled him to unleash inside center Epi Ratu at the Quins line thus putting Ards over the gain line with support running from Chris McClure.
Ards upped the tempo and scored a well worked try from a clean take by Yates at a 22 meter line-out, the ball was moved to winger Neil Beggs on a crash ball to score under the Quins posts, Aston added the conversion 7-5.
Play was kept in the Quins half and Ards should have increased the lead on several occasions.
Chris Beacom making his Ards debut but playing out of position on the wing just lacked the finishing pace when put though in a sweeping back move.
Half-time Ards 7 v Quins 5
A Great take from the restart by Yates raised the home teams intensity and saw Ards put pressure on the Quins line.
Improving No8 Ben Smith was held up on the line from a 5 meter scrum, this was followed by indiscipline from the Quins forwards and Ards were awarded a penalty, out-half Aston increased the Ards lead 10-5.
Hard working second row Trevor Jordan linked up well with full back Stephen McKee which almost lead to a try in the corner only for a good cover tackle from the Quins fullback.
The Quins forwards began to impose on the Ards defence, but the home team were determined to hold on to the lead.
The match was abandoned on the 70th minute.
Unfortunately this match will be remembered for the injury to Davy Dodd who will be a big loss to Ards this season.
