This game was supposed to have been played in conjunction with the 1st XV Ards v Rainey Ulster Senior League match but with the IRFU dictating that the Ards 1st XV rearranged AIL match against Bruff had to be played.
Both Ards and Rainey agreed to play both these fixtures later in the season but the Ulster Branch refused this and also dictated that the 2nds XV match between both teams had to be played on Saturday.
With Rainey 1st XV thus having no game, a strong Rainey 2nd XV visited Hamilton Park on Saturday.
However, what was a keenly contested match had to be abandoned with 15minutes of the game remaining, due to a clash of heads to Ards winger Stevie McKee and the Rainey 2nd row, which required both players needing stitches to head wounds.
