On a glorious afternoon in North Antrim a confident Ards 2s travelled to a sizeable Ballymena 3s to do battle in the junior league.
When ko time came Ballymena started quicker and after some toing and froing between the relative packs Ballymena were awarded a pen on 7mins which was duly converted. This only seemed to Galvanise the ards boys and 3mins later after some slick work in the midfield Neil Armstrong scored an excellent try duly converted by Joel de Pledge. there then followed a period of both packs duelling for supremacy to which on 15 mins. ards were awarded a penalty near halfway which the excellent kicking of JdP continued 10 - 3 to Ards. 17mins the Ards pack drove towards the opposition 22 and the ball was then released to the backs slick interplay resulted in the debutant Yabia Lemekia using power and pace to score with the con.also slotted.17 - 3.
It took until the 30th minute before another a great effot by the pack to turnover the ball resulted in the ball being spread wide to Cameron McKee who had still plenty to do to score in the corner which he did, again converted. 24- 3. Shortly after a complete team move saw Peppi Ratu score under the posts which was duly converted. 31 - 3. HT.
On the restart Ards realising the job was not yet done stormed up the field and sored through the excellent Lemekia, converted.38 - 3
Ards were down to 14 shortly after and the hosts took full advantage when they scored an uncoverted try.38 - 8.
Then on 57 mins the dancing feet of Stephen McKee took him through a bewildered hosts defence and he duly dotted down under the posts which JdP converted. 45 -8.
Two mins. later again with the forwards playing there part the back line cut loose again and Gareth Wilson touched down for an uncoverted score.50 -8.
The hosts would not give up and a lack of concentration allowed them to score and convert on 65 mins. 50 - 15
Ards roared back as if offended by this and scored two tries through Lemekia (hat trick) and Ryan Thompson both converted for a FT. score of 64 - 15.
A superb effort by all 17 players and many thanks to the travelling support and officials.
