Ards 2nds Progress in Crawford Cup
It was a much changed Ards 2nd XV that visited Shaws Bridge to play Cooke RFC 2nds in the opening round of the Crawford Cup.
Ards were quite rusty in the first half, but still managed to exert dominance in the scrum and hold the majority of possession.
A combination of stout home defence and Ards trying and failing to force complex line moves in wet conditions with a lack of familiarity restricted the scoreline to 15-0 in their favour at half time with tries from full back Adam Coulter and out half Ricky Aston along with a conversion and a penalty from Aston.
A few words of encouragement at half time and some positional changes brought a much more joined up performance in the second half.
The line out became the weapon of choice and simpler moves off hard running angles brought tries for flankers Jack Coulter x 2 and Davy Calvert along with centre Aaron Fullerton, Aston was successful with the 4 conversions.
The Ards scores were split by 2 well deserved tries for the home side
A pleasing day at the office for Ards 2nds, who look forward to the next round in this tough competition.
