Ards 14 v 14 Dromore
The new season kicked off on a blustery day with a friendly against Dromore 2's. Ards playing with the wind, played some great rugby in patches but alas the final ball let them down on many occasions. This theme continued through the 1st half with many breaks not being converted. HT 0-0.
Playing into the wind in the second half Ards knew it was going to be tough, but they came out with purpose and completely dominated the first 10 mins . This good work finally resulted in a super try for Gareth Wilson, converted by Ajay Derwin. However after scoring a try its important to concentrate and regain possession, unfortunetly Ards failed to do this resulting in Dromore presssue.
Dromore finally scored a converted try after a series of penalties on the line. Ards again got themselves on the front foot and scored a great try. Dromore kicked out of defence to the Ards back 3 who took the ball back with speed, This allowed quick ball which Derwin capatilised on to make a break and send Stephen Cole in at the posts for a good score converted by Derwin.
Unfortunately after getting themselves into the lead Ards gave away another sloppy converted try. The rest of the game was played out with both teams giving committed performances. FT 14-14
For a first game of the season Ards played some good rugby in patches and showed what they are capable off. If the players continue to work hard in training, the final ball which on many occassions was dropped or the wrong option taken will result in tries.
