Ards 2nds welcomed Queens 3rds to Hamilton Park on Saturday. The game started off well for Ards with Adam Coulter scoring a well worked try out wide on the left wing. The tough kick went unconverted. Ards 5 v Queens 0
Queens were then gifted a try off phase one in the Ards 22 and converted it to make it 5-7 to the visitors. Ards 5 v Queens 7
Returning scrum half Matthew Peak then scored after some hard work from the pack to create space for Coulter who was tackled just short but had the awareness to offload to Peak to go over the whitewash, the conversion was missed. Ards 10 v Queens 7
Ryan Copeland then took the initiative with a very strong run to score the third Ards try of the day which Paul Cox converted. Ards 17 v Queens 7
Queens responded well with another converted try. Half time: Ards 17 v Queens 14
The 2nd half started well with Joel Clarke returning to scrum-half with a score of his own after spotting a gap and used his strength to shrug off a couple of tackles, Cox dually added the extras. Ards 24 v Queens 14
Cox added a further 3 points with a well struck penalty. Ards 27 v Queens 14
Coulter scored his second try of the game which was converted by Cox. Ards 34 v Queens 14
Ards were reduced to 14 players, when centre Mark McLean was adjudged to have made a high tackle, Queens took advantage of this and scored an unconverted try for the game to finish 34-19 to Ards.
It was great to see some debutants on the field for Ards with Zeki Kaya and Carter Johnston putting in a very good shift. The returning James Patton made himself a nuisance at the breakdown and Torin Ball also put in a very good performance both in attack and defence.
